How much time will it take me to complete this course?

Each module video is only around 10-20 minutes long. The tasks that are required of you should take no more than an hour per module.

How do I find meetings to go to?

Download the ‘cheatsheet’ in module 2. This has lots of ideas for where to find meetings.

Is networking expensive?

Networking certainly requires some investment but it doesn’t have to be expensive. Most networks will offer you a free meeting or two to try it out (though you can expect to still pay for any food that’s provided).

Small, local networks will probably be cheaper than the big national networks. I’ve paid nothing to attend meetings, I’ve paid £2, I’ve paid £15. Some networks require you to become a member to access more than a couple of meetings, and this is where you have to decide whether to invest.

I would do as much as you can for free, and then decide which network you think will best suit you, and lead to a return on your investment.

Do I need a banner?

Not necessarily. Not all networking meetings allow you to display one. If you find you are regularly attending meetings where banners are allowed, then it’s worth investing in one.

Do I need business cards?

You will need business cards if you are going to attend a physical meeting or business expo. Take plenty because you never want to run out. See module 3 for what to put on your business cards.

Someone has asked me for a 121 - what should I do?

Say yes! Never turn down a 121 because you don’t know where it might lead. Even if you think you have nothing in common with the other person, you don’t know who they could introduce you to.

I met someone who was interested in what I do but they haven't called - what should I do?

Take the initiative and follow up with them! Some people aren’t very good at the follow up stage - but this is where the magic of networking happens. Don’t wait for people to contact you, get in touch with them. People are busy and they just forget. It’s perfectly ok for you to reach out to them, remind them of where you met, and ask them for a 121 meeting. It’s rare for anyone to refuse - see above.

I don’t seem to be able to download the pdfs (cheatsheet etc)

Some people have had issues with downloading these if they’re using Safari. Try switching to Chrome - then it should work.

Should I re-name myself on Zoom etc? What should I put?

I always re-name myself as Liz Drury Voiceovers so people know who I am and what I do. Always include your name so that people can look you up on social media, and your business type or name is useful so people can see at a glance what it is you do.
